Volunteers

The biennial event of Elargis tes Horizons would not be possible without the many dedicated volunteers who give their time and help make the day a success. It's a day that will inspire girls to excel in science and math. Your support is essential!

We are very grateful for the help provided by all those (parents, friends, (ex-)colleagues and students) who return each year, and we are particularly pleased to find among our volunteers young women who have themselves benefited from previous events as participants.

We are looking for young adults (>16 years) and adults to help out at this event.

If you would like to volunteer at our next event, please send your contact details, covering letter and the contact details of at least one reference person to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Various roles

Volunteers are asked to help with many different roles. If you have a few hours to spare, you can help with the following tasks:

The evening before the event:

  • Setting up furniture for the biennial event (physical work)

  •  Filling bags for participants and other preparations

On the day of the event:

  • Welcoming and assisting workshop and booth leaders

  • General welcome and supervision of participants when moving in large numbers

  • Check-in of participants (scanning of tickets, distribution of agendas, distribution of lab coats and bags)

  • Checkroom

  • Guiding groups of participants to their workshops

  • Guiding groups of participants to the Discovery Fair

  • Take photos, create publications and broadcast live on social networks

  • Dismantling stands at the end of the day (physical work)

Mandatory online training for all volunteers will be organized prior to the event

The training will be divided into two sessions: a general one concerning the biennial event, and a more specific one for each position.

Volunteer check-in

Volunteer check-in is compulsory and will be possible:

  • Friday evening before the event, between 15:30 and 19:00.
  • Or on the day of the event, between 7:30 and 8:00.

We will provide you with a T-shirt for this occasion.

Start of the event

On the day of the event, volunteers should arrive between 7:30 and 8:00.

Lunch

We offer lunch at noon. Vegetarian and vegan options will be available.

End of event and cocktail reception

At the end of the event, around 4:15 pm, you are cordially invited to join other volunteers, workshop leaders and committee members for a cocktail. This will be an opportunity to network and receive a little recognition for your contribution.

Cancellation

If you are unable to fulfill your volunteer commitment, even at the last minute, please send us an SMS to: +41 76 411 52 63. Any unreported absence greatly complicates the organization of the event and is therefore not appreciated.

What to wear

Casual clothing. Don't forget to wear the ETH T-shirt you received at check-in.

Rewards and recognition

All volunteers can keep their ETH T-shirt.

For young adults (15 to 25 years old), we offer:
